A day before Supreme Court is scheduled to hear Tripathi’s petition, the Sunni Central Waqf Board, Jamiat-Ulama-i-Hind (UP), four residents from Faizabad and the Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha have requested the court to dismiss his appeal as efforts for reconciliation have failed.

Even the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court’s efforts to explore the possibility of an out of court settlement had failed as all the parties had rejected the Tripathi’s plea there. “Efforts to resolve this dispute by mutual settlement have already been made several times at the highest level but no results could be achieved...,” the affidavit read.

In a joint affidavit five more respondents have objected to Tripathi’s petition. It claims he has never appeared before the HC in the last 19 years. “Such a person cannot be expected to undertake the exercise of a mutual settlement out of court.”
