“We were woken up at 1.30 am and taken to the airport by 3 am. We sat in the aircraft from 7.30 am to 9.30 am and where then offloaded,” said Sudhir K Tripathi, another passenger.

The replacement aircraft, which was scheduled to depart at 6 am from the airport, was unable to take off due to technical problem.

“The problem is being investigated and rectified by KLM engineers. The passengers were taken back to hotels and would be driven back to the airport only when the situation is definitely rectified,” the spokeswoman of the airline said.

She added: “The aircraft would now fly out of Delhi at 10.30 pm and reach Mauritius at 4.15 am”

“We are sorry to learn about this incident caused by a bird strike at Delhi Airport. It is also unfortunate that the aircraft we had ferried to Delhi had a technical delay. Air Mauritius sincerely regrets the inconvenience caused to passengers by this additional delay,” said Manoj RK Ujoodha, CEO of Air Mauritius in a statement.
