Delhi Metro on Tuesday launched a new generation of smart cards in the form of key chains. The new ‘smart key chains’ are much smaller than the regular smart cards with a metallic ring attached to the card to put the keys.

More than five lakh metro commuters use smart cards for their metro journeys.

“Many metro regulars park vehicles at the metro parking. This new device would serve a dual purpose -as smart cards and as key chain,” said a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) spokesperson.

A DMRC spokesperson said, “The corners are rounded and the sides tapered so that they do not cause cuts,” he said. The smart key chains can be purchased for Rs 50 at customer care centres at Metro stations.

New I-card

The DMRC also launched an identity card for its station managers and controllers authorised to collect penalty from commuters violating Delhi Metro rules and regulations in DMRC premises. The ‘Authorised For Penalty’ identity card is in the form of a wallet made of leather with a brass logo of DMRC.
