What has shocked the Delhi Police is the fact that not only the modus operandi but also the thefts (see box) in all the cases were similar, backing their suspicion that these were probably being done in connivance with hospital insiders.

Just like in Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital, the storekeeper at the Delhi government-run Guru Gobind Singh Hospital in Raghu Nagar found locks of cupboards broken and sutures (surgical thread), needles and other surgical equipment missing from inside the almirah when he reported for duty in the morning.

The FIR dated December 21, says, “the store keeper found the inside gate of the store was half open with door lock and seal intact even though the outside shutter was properly locked with seal intact.”

According to the police, the locks of the main entry gate and that of the storeroom were found intact, which means that there was no forced entry.

“The stolen items were worth a couple of lakhs and were probably sold in the grey market," said a police source.

“The case has been transferred to the Crime Branch,” said Sharad Agarwal, deputy commissioner of police (West)
“This shows complete carelessness,” said Kiran Walia, Delhi health minister. “I will ensure somebody is held accountable for the same.”
