BJP may not change top order to lead new municipalities

The names of former MCD Mayor Rajni Abbi and deputy chairperson of the Standing Committee Sarita Chaudhary are the doing the rounds for the post of Mayor in North and South Delhi corporations, respectively. Subhash Arya will continue as the leader of the house in South Delhi while Yogender Chandolia will continue as the chairman, Standing Committee in North Delhi Corporation. They held the same position in the undivided MCD.
In East Delhi, Vijay Behal or to Usha Shastri's names are being considered for the post of Mayor, sources indicated.
The names of the Mayor for the three civic bodies will be finalised either on Tuesday or Wednesday but some other top positions have been 'unofficially' decided, say sources. But they hastened to add that all three mayors would be women.
Mahinder Nagpal, former chairman of the education committee will serve as the deputy Mayor of North Delhi Corporation and former chairman of the Standing Committee, Ram Kishan Singhal, may be appointed leader of the house in North Delhi Corporation.
Former deputy Mayor, Rajesh Gehlot, is likely to be appointed chairman of the Standing Committee in South Delhi Municipal Corporation. Former members of the Standing Committee — BB Tyagi and Mahek Singh — are likely to be appointed as leader of the house and chairman of the Standing Committee in East Delhi Municipal Corporation.
"The team of office bearers in MCD have played a significant role in ensuring BJP's win in the elections that is why they are being given similar responsibilities after the trifurcation of the civic body. Apart from that, they are known faces and the party would benefit out of their experience," said a party leader.
