Even as BJP intensifies campaigning in the national capital, the party on Monday ruled out using Varun Gandhi in the canvassing saying there has been no “demand” for him from the grassroot workers.
Before Gandhi was released from the jail, senior Delhi BJP leaders including V K Malhotra had said that he will be used during the campaigning in Delhi.
“Varun Gandhi will not campaign in Delhi. He has not been invited,” a senior leader of Delhi BJP said.
He said there has been no demand from the party workers from any of the seven constituencies in Delhi for Gandhi, the party’s new poster boy.
Gandhi was released on April 16 from the Etah jail after Supreme Court ordered his release on parole for two weeks.
The BJP had said that Gandhi, party’s candidate from Pilibhit, would also campaign outside his constituency according to his “comfort level and demands of the individual candidates”.
The BJP leader said party’s Prime Ministerial candidate L K Advani, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, senior leader Sushma Swaraj and Muruli Manohar Joshi will campaign in the national capital.
