The Delhi Police have finally fished out all the bodies from the river. All the victims lived in the same locality –– Gali No 10, Anand Parbat in the Sonia Pushta area.
The bodies of Raj Mann (21), Kanhaiya Lal (21), Sonu (13), Raju (27), Dilip (13) Ashfaq, Asif and Pankaj have finally been recovered. The body of Jitender (22) was found on the day of the drowning itself.
Both the Ghaziabad and Delhi authorities have been making efforts to find the eight bodies. The authorities had taken the help of divers to recover bodies.
Even local fishermen helped them out. They tried to look for more victims with the help of fishing nets and boats.
According to local residents, the ill-fated spot in Burari, where the drownings occurred, was chosen as an immersion-spot since it was secluded.
Police, however, said the riverbank was not one of the spots assigned by them for idol immersion.
