“As many as 125 areas have been targeted across south and west Delhi. “These raids will be conducted along with Delhi police personnel for safety of our staff,” said BSES spokesperson.

In the past seven days of the drive, more than 5,000 kilowatt of power theft has already been unearthed and nearly 750 cases have been booked so far. The enforcement drive will continue till March 31.

“It is seen that with the cold weather, there is a sharp increase in energy theft. This leads to severe overloading of the distribution system (transformers/feeders), resulting in frequent tripping. This is also a potential safety hazard. Dangerous overloading of the distribution system can also damage the distribution equipment”, said a BRPL official.

According to officials, BRPL has booked over 1.01 lakh cases and unearthed power theft of more than 6.27 lakh kilowatt since July 2002.
