CBI gets new additional director

An IPS officer of 1978 batch of Manipur-Tripura cadre, Ali had the experience of working with several departments of the agency for nearly 14 years in two stints -- 1998-99 and 2006-09.

"He has earlier held several important positions in anti-corruption, special crimes, administration, special unit and other divisions and zones in CBI from 1988 to 1999 and 2006 to 2009 including the post of joint director, DIG and SP," a CBI spokesperson said here.

The additional director's post was vacant since June after incumbent V K Gupta was promoted as Special Director.

Ali has also held various positions in Tripura - SP of North Tripura, South Tripura and West Tripura and in Special Branch. He has served as IGP (Armed Police, Operations and Law and Order), the official said.

Ali has also served as Inspector General of Indo-Tibetan Border Police during which he was awarded gold, silver and bronze discs.

He has been decorated with the Police Medal for Meritorious Service and the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service.
