Delhi Police launched a massive mock drill at 9.30am in which SWAT teams, local area police and personnel from other security agencies took part. The entire operation took more than two hours.

"A call was made that five terrorists have attacked the Parliament. We immediately got into action and took all necessary steps. The situation was brought under control and the 'terrorists' were taken into custody. A mock drill of this level has happened at Parliament after a long time," said a senior police officer requesting anonymity, as he was not authorised to speak to the media.

With the World Cup 2011 officially opening in the Indian sub-continent, Delhi Police have also increased security around Ferozeshah Kotla Stadium. The police force conducted as many as five mock drills at the stadium in the last one month.

According to the police, there is a possibility that Indian Mujahideen operatives who have already entered the Capital might orchestrate series of low-scale attacks to cause panic during the World Cup.

“We are not taking any chances and all measures are being taken to ensure that the World Cup is a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone," said a senior police officer on the condition of anonymity, as he is not authorised to speak to the media.
