Cricketer’s relatives arrested for beating up man

The Delhi Police have arrested cricketer Gautam Gambhir’s cousin and uncle for beating up a man in Karol Bagh in a case of road rage that allegedly happened last month.

The Delhi Police have arrested cricketer Gautam Gambhir’s cousin and uncle for beating up a man in Karol Bagh in a case of road rage that allegedly happened last month.

“We have arrested Raghav Gambhir and Mahender Pal Manchanda. They have been sent to 14 days in judicial custody,” Devesh Chandra Srivastava, additional CP (central) said.

Last month, Jaspal Singh, 52, was thrashed by Gambhir and Manchanda after his car grazed against Gambhir’s car.

Police said two constables, who were manning the nearby picket, tried to stop them but they continued to beat the victim.

“My husband was coming from Tilak Nigar and at around 1 am, when he reached near Jassaram hospital on Pusa road, the Tata Sumo he was driving grazed against a Hyundai Accent car. The occupants of the car came out and started beating up my husband,” Bhupinder, the victim’s wife said. Jaspal works as a driver for a call centre.

A case under sections 308 (attempt to culpable homicide), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention) of Indian Penal Code was registered against them.
