CWG scam: CBI nabs DDA engineer, finds Rs 11 lakh in his locker

The name of the accused official, Shishir Kumar Jain, had also figured in the CBI's first information report (FIR) on Wednesday over irregularities in the award of a Rs 154 crore contract for construction of an indoor stadium for Common-wealth Games (CWG).

A day after booking Jain in the CWG case, the CBI on Thursday searched two of his bank lockers and found assets estimated to be worth over

Rs 1 crore. "We seized Rs 11 lakh in all from Jain's two lockers," said a CBI source.

"Documents pertaining to five other properties held in his name or those of his family members were found as well, whose evaluation is in the process," the source said, adding, "The cash and the five properties were unaccounted. We are likely to now book the accused for owning disproportionate assets."

The CBI is in the process of assessing the wealth of nine other DDA officials, including the retired chief engineer VK Panchal, who were booked along with Jain by the CBI for irregularities related to CWG indoor stadium for badminton and squash at the Siri Fort Sports Complex.

Along with the 10 DDA official, including Jain, officials of a Mumbai-based construction firm were also booked for the alleged irregularities related to the CWG contract that caused a loss of Rs 36 crore to the exchequer.
