The girl, a Class 11 student, who was previously sharing an apartment with a female friend, had just moved in with the four accused in September.

“The day she moved into their apartment, they raped her and threatened to kill her. She tried to escape, but they locked her up,” said a police officer, who did not want to be named.

In her statement to police, the girl said she was raped not just by them but also their friends who came visiting.

Police said she had told her erstwhile flatmate before moving in that she knew the men and they could be trusted as they were in the police force -- a claim which later turned out to be false.

Last week, the girl finally managed to escape and informed the local police. The medical examination of the girl has confirmed rape.
