Hours after a 20-year-old Manipuri student was threatened and robbed of Rs. 400 and a mobile phone by four unidentified men in south Delhi, the Delhi police claimed to have arrested all the four accused.
According to the police, all four arrested accused are vagabonds who stay near Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah. They have been identified as Mohammad Nadeem, Mohammad Safiq, Allauddin and Mohammad Wasim, all in their early and mid-twenties, police said.
A senior police officer said the robbers were arrested within four hours of the robbery that took place on Sunday evening in Hazrat Nizamuddin area.
The victim, identified as Vasomo Phong Sore, a first-year student of Delhi University, was heading towards a mobile recharge shop in Nizamuddin when he was waylaid by the four accused and robbed of his cash.
“The Manipuri student had come to a church located in Hazrat Nizamuddin with his elder sister. He left his sister at the church and went out telling her that he was going to buy a recharge coupon for his mobile phone from a nearby shop,” said the senior police officer.
As soon as he left the church on his motorcycle, the officer said, four unidentified men stopped him on the way and overpowered him. “They threatened him with dire consequences if he raised an alarm and did not hand over the cash and valuables with him. Before he could react, the robbers snatched his phone and money and fled from the spot,” added the officer.
