Under the 'islanding scheme', Delhi can be isolated and insulated from the grid so that it can draw power directly from a generating station in case of a collapse.

Yusuf said "Delhi is the capital of the country and continuous power supply is important from a security point of view."

The scheme is already in place in south and central Mumbai.
