Dikshit a bundle of nerves, yet confident of victory

A day before Delhi goes to vote, its chief minister Sheila Dikshit organised a press meet which she addressed along with DPCC president Jai Prakash Agarwal.

And this time she played it safe, expressing nervousness and confidence at the same time. “I am highly confident about our victory as people are fed up with corruption in the BJP-led MCD in the last five years. At the same time, I am tensed too,” she told the reporters.

She also added that as a party, Congress has tasted both victory and defeat in far too many elections. “Victory and defeat are two parts of the democratic process and one should acknowledge the people’s verdict wholeheartedly,” Dikshit said.

She also termed these elections as ‘historic’ as Delhiites would vote for a trifurcated MCD for the first time.

Dikshit also claimed that price hike of essential commodities as an issue will not benefit the BJP in any manner as she believed that the “prices of essential commodities in Delhi are among the cheapest in all metropolitan cities across the country and that people lived here comfortably.”

But isn’t the holding of a press conference a violation of the election code of conduct as all campaigns for the polls have come to an end?

Replying to this query Aggarwal said the party decided to address the media as their rival, the BJP, too had held a media briefing earlier in the day.
