DTC sacks ‘drunk’ driver, orders probe

The DTC has terminated the errant bus driver, Amar Singh, and the conductor of the bus and also suspended the duty officer and depot manager in regard to Sunday’s accident that took place at around 11.45 am on Asaf Ali Road in central Delhi’s Kamla Market area.

Arvinder Singh Lovely, Delhi transport minister, has ordered a fact finding enquiry into the accident and a senior DTC officer has been asked to conduct the enquiry. “This type of behaviour from DTC staff cannot be tolerated. Every single driver and conductor has been told to behave. There is absolutely zero tolerance for accidents and misbehaviour,” said Lovely.

Taking a serious view on the rising trend of fatal accidents involving DTC buses, PK Gupta, chairman-cum-managing-director of DTC said, “All DTC officers have been directed that no one would be spared in case of fatal accidents involving DTC buses.” Meanwhile, to ensure the safety of DTC bus users, DTC is launching a special drive from Tuesday.
