Here’s some good news for women students of the Delhi University North Campus. From Friday, they don’t have to worry much and can feel safe even if they are leaving the campus after 8pm.

The university administration has decided to provide security escorts to women students who leave the college campus late, as they are busy with research work and readings.

To begin with, these security personnel will be present on designated areas at fixed times and will go from the campus to Hudson Lane.
The service will start at 8.30pm from the Arts Faculty gate and security guards will go to the University Hostel, Vijay Nagar and Hudson Lane.
The guards will take two rounds, one at 8.30pm and the other at 9pm. “A lot of university students stay in rented apartments and paying guests around the North Campus in areas like Vijay Nagar and Hudson Lane. Some students work till late in laboratories or libraries and feel unsafe while going back home in the evening. The service has been started to provide security to women students,” said RK Sinha, registrar, Delhi University.
The details of the route can be seen in the Facebook page of the university proctor — Proctor University of Delhi. Students can also give suggestions on the Facebook page.
The decision comes at a time when the security arrangements for students in the South Campus are being strengthened following the murder of DU student Radhika Tanwar near Satya Niketan last month.
