“If it had not been for his support, I would not be doing what I am doing,” said Devi, who comes from Bulandsaher in Uttar Pradesh.

She wanted to contest on a popular party ticket but she said could not afford it. “You cannot dream of getting a ticket without paying a huge sum and we don’t have that kind of money” she said. So, they formed the All India Bahujan Congress Committee Party.

Her agenda is development.

“We are talking about employment for the youth, an end to price rise and economic slowdown. All workers must have a share in the production companies and farmers must get as much help from the government as possible,” said Devi.

She said the 2010 Commonwealth Games could bring some development, but since most of the population in the constituency lives in unauthorised colonies, it has to be ensured that they do not lose their homes.
