Former Railway employee sentenced to 3 years in jail

A former Assistant Secretary of Railway Recruitment Board and two of his family members have been sentenced to three years rigorous imprisonment in a case of disproportionate income.

A former Assistant Secretary of Railway Recruitment Board and two of his family members have been sentenced to three years rigorous imprisonment in a case of disproportionate income.

The Principal Special Judge for CBI Cases, Chennai convicted former Assistant Secretary, Railway Recruitment Board, Chennai, S Govindarajan and wife Sathyabama and a family member G Srinivasan, former senior operations officer of Bharat Petroleum, for possession of assets of Rs 6.5 lakh, disproportionate to their known sources of income, a CBI spokesperson said.

A fine of Rs 10 lakh each was imposed on Govindarajan and Srinivasan. Sathyabama was fined Rs 5 lakh.

The court also ordered confiscation of cash seized from the residence of Govindarajan, bank deposits, shares and bank balances amounting to Rs 5.36 lakh, the official said.
