Delhi Integrated Multi Modal Transit System (DIMTS), the agency that provides consultancy to the transport department, is developing a software that will enable commuters to know the exact distance they have travelled and the exact fare.

While new auto-rickshaws already have global positioning system (GPS) installed and old auto-rickshaws will also have the device installed soon, DIMTS will be able track the journey undertaken by each auto-rickshaw at its Kashmere Gate-based control centre. With this new software tracking the journey will not be difficult, the official said.

The transport department, meanwhile, notified the revised auto-rickshaw and taxi fare on Friday. The new fare will come into effect from Saturday. Officials said they have asked the fare meter manufacturers to pull up their socks and re-calibrate meters to ensure the auto-rickshaw drivers and commuters do not face problem. HTC
