IIIT-Delhi moves to new campus in Okhla

Students of the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT-Delhi) will no longer have to attend classes in its temporary centre at the Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology (NSIT).

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Monday inaugurated the IIIT-Delhi campus in south Delhi's Okhla. The institute, a state university established in 2008, was functioning from NSIT, Dwarka.

Inaugurating the green, energy-efficient building, Dikshit said, "Our government is keen to develop this institute as the world's best institute in information technology and allied fields by offering highly innovative courses".

The government, while drafting the bill of this varsity, ensured full autonomy for the institute. The minister further said that the government would support all its research programmes. "There would be no dearth of funds for the growth of the institute," added Dikshit.

In addition to this, students admitted to this institute from Delhi government schools would get free education.
