Hindi (Hons) imparts the knowledge of language, literature and culture and a bit of history as well.
The syllabus of Hindi (Hons), much like the Hindi language, is continuously evolving and adapting itself to the requirements of the day.
The language is enhancing itself to describe new technology, concepts and experiences. It is taking words from regional and foreign languages to expand its ability for expression.
Students of the course are able to develop an insight of India's linguistic history, enriching their understanding of
the Indian culture. Hindi, in its own pure form, has never lost relevance and continues to bind our country.
The course consists of 12 papers - spread over 3 years - that include lessons on Sahityalochan, Medieval Poetry: Bhakti Dhara and Reetikavidhara in the first year. Hindi Gadya Sahitya, Aadhunik Kavyadhara (Modern Poetry) and Saamnya
Bhashavigyan aur Hindi Bhasha (Grammar) are taught in the second year.
Hindi Natak (Plays), Bharatiya Bhasha Sahitya and Hindi Sahitya ka Itihaas (History of Hindi literature) are taught in the third year.
Students may also take optional papers in media writing for Hindi, Hindi Theatre, Translation and history of Hindi
Theatre
Only those students who have studied Hindi till 10+2 are eligible for admission to this course.
Students aiming at becoming lecturers of Hindi may pursue MA, M Phil, PhD and Degree in Literature (DLITT). Further studies in education can also be undertaken to build careers as teachers
Apart from teaching, this course also opens gates to career in translation.
All ministries in India hire professional translators, which create a huge demand for this skill.
Students are also increasingly taking to journalism. Advertising and theatre are the creative fields where Hindi students find a footing.
