The accused, Shalu Usman, allegedly killed his step-mother, Sahista, with a butcher knife for ill-treating his sister, who is suffering from polio. The incident took place in the Sabzi Mandi area of north Delhi.

“Usman fled after killing Sahista. He was arrested from a nearby area,” said IB Rani, DCP (north).

The police have recovered the murder weapon. Usman had procured the knife from a chicken shop, police said.

Sahista was found lying in a pool of blood in her house. There were stab wounds all over her body, police said.

Sahista’s husband Nusrat was questioned and it was found that Sahista was his second wife.

“Nusrat has three sons and one daughter from his first wife. Usman is his eldest son. Sahista’s behaviour towards her stepdaughter, a polio patient, was not good and she used to force her do household chores,” said Rani.

Police said Usman had a heated argument with Sahista on Sunday after which he killed her.
