Vivek Kishore, deputy commissioner of police (central) said Saini, a marketing assistant with an interior decoration firm in Karol Bagh, was arrested after being questioned about his claim that his employer's R5 lakh was snatched from him by unidentified men.

"Saini called the police on Saturday claiming that two bikers had snatched R5 lakh from him," DCP Kishore said. Saini had alleged that the money was given to him by his employer, Naresh Goyal, to deliver to his office accountant in Karol Bagh.

However, Saini frequently kept changing his statement. "Goyal too suspected that Saini might have misappropriated the money. We decided to check the CCTV footage near the area where the alleged incident took place which showed that Saini had reached the area without a bag," said DCP Kishore.

When questioned, Saini confessed to having given the money to his friend Manoj, who stays in Gurgaon, for safekeeping.
