According to party insiders, the election commission has decided to pick wards without taking into consideration the percentage of SC population.

Some of the wards suggested for SC seats include areas such as East of Kailash and Vasant Kunj that have a very small percentage of such population. “In East of Kailash, only 16.26% population are SCs. There is no justification for its impending selection as an SC ward,” said Jagdish Mamgain, a councilor.

Malti Verma, councillor from Naraina, said the present list of SC population is based on the 2001 census when the population of Delhi was just about 60 lakh.

Other councilors have defended the selection, saying SC candidates should be allowed to represent areas with less SC population.
