NCPRI clarifies on its stand on vigilance panel under Lokpal

The National Campaign for Peoples' Right To Information said on Saturday there is no change in its position on having a revamped and fully independent Central Vigilance Commission.

In a statement, the campaign said "it has no objection if the CVC is made administratively sub-ordinate to the Lokpal".

Explaining its position, the campaign said by 'administratively subordinate' it means that the CVC and other vigilance commissioners would be subordinate in rank to the chairperson and members of the Lokpal.

It will mean that the complaints against members and senior staff of the CVC would be heard by the Lokpal and where there is an overlap of jurisdiction between the CVC and the Lokpal, the jurisdiction of the Lokpal will prevail.

"The Lokpal will have the authority to requisition the assistance of the CVC when required," the statement said.

The campaign also said there was no meeting held to reconsider the positions of the NCPRI.
