No digging in monsoon season: Govt

Concerned with frequent digging and cutting of roads by one agency or the other, the Delhi government has decided to allow civic agencies, telecom companies and discoms to carry out any work that requires digging a road only from December to March.

Concerned with frequent digging and cutting of roads by one agency or the other, the Delhi government has decided to allow civic agencies, telecom companies and discoms to carry out any work that requires digging a road only from December to March. Delhi urban development minister Ashok Kumar Walia said no agency would be allowed to do so between June and September when monsoon hits the city.

The government will soon move a proposal to the DDA to make provisions for multipurpose service duct in all new residential and commercial areas it builds. "Constructing a multipurpose utility duct, as the NDMC is doing, is a good way to solve the problem of this haphazard road cutting," Walia said.
