Now DU airwaves too aid in admission season

Admission season is a busy time for Divya Duna, a former DU student. While most people go on vacations during this time of the year, Duna prefers to make the admission process easier for newcomers.

Working in DU's Community Radio station — 90.4 FM — has been a great experience for her. The station offers programming for newcomers and applicants during the admission season.

"There are probably some students applying to DU this year who may have some queries about admissions, but don't know where to turn for answers," Duna said. From Monday to Saturday, the station airs Mission DU Admission, a programme that helps this year's aspirants to gain admission to the university. The programme airs from 11 to 12pm.

Student counsellors and experts on the admission process from different colleges across the campus are invited to give advice on the admission process.

The programme also takes phone calls from students and parents about admissions or other school-related topics. It also features people who have been successful in their respective fields to relate their journey.

All students who work at Delhi University Community Radio are volunteers and are not paid anything pay. Danish Ahmed, who is studying radio management at the university and has been working here for the past three months, says, "This is my natural place."

The station, funded by the university, airs a total of eight hours of programming each day, including call-in shows and music programmes. However, it is limited to a diameter of about 12-15km from its North Campus office.

Moreover, not many are aware about the existence of the radio channel. "I have never heard of this station. It sounds like a great idea," said Megha Yadav, a student at Miranda House.
