After much delay, the Delhi division of Northern Railways has finally launched a real-time train information SMS service.

After much delay, the Delhi division of Northern Railways has finally launched a real-time train information SMS service. Now, you can get the position of your train on your mobile by just sending an SMS mentioning your train number to 9717631813.

No special SMS charge would be applicable. The service aims at providing relief to passengers during foggy days when trains run hours behind schedule.

"This is one of the major amenities which we wanted to provide to passengers. We have designed an automated software to disseminate real time-train information through SMS," said Ashwani Lohani, divisional railway manager (Delhi division), northern railways.

The Railways will be launching two more easy to remember SMS numbers on January 1.
