The 17-year-old girl, who was allegedly sexually assaulted, murdered and then dumped in an open field in Dwarka Sector 9, lived a hard life. Her body was found in a field on Saturday around 3.30pm by a passerby.
Making ends meet: Her mother died nine years ago, and two years ago, the victim and her brother lost their father, a Class IV employee at a government hospital, as well. The siblings and her 20-year-old brother were barely able to make ends meet. Neighbours said both dropped out of school after Class 4. "The brother was unemployed. They had rented out one of the rooms of their flat and were living off the rent. The brother had tried to find a job, but could not," said one of the neighbours of the victim.
According to the police, she planned to go out with her friends on Friday. Around 5.30pm, she told her brother that she was leaving for a party with her friends. “She did not say where she was going or with whom. But some people in the locality told us she went out with four men. We are still in the process of confirming it,” said a senior police officer, requesting anonymity, as he was not authorised to speak to the media.
According to police, the girl was not sexually assaulted or raped. “Preliminary medical examination showed the victim did have sexual intercourse before her murder, but there were no signs of assault,” said Sharad Aggarwal, deputy commissioner of police (southwest).
