PCPA denies involment in train mishap

According to news reports Maoist-backed People's Committee against Police Atrocities (PCPA) which had apparently claimed responsibility for the derailment of an passenger train that left at least 65 dead and over 150 injured early today, has denied any involvement.

According to news reports Maoist-backed People's Committee against Police Atrocities (PCPA) which had apparently claimed responsibility for the derailment of an passenger train that left at least 65 dead and over 150 injured early Friday, has denied any involvement.

The Press Trust of India had said that someone claiming to represent the People's Committee against Police Atrocities (PCPA) had called its offices in Kolkata to say its members had sabotaged the railway track in West Bengal.

Hours later, however, PTI said PCPA spokesperson Asit Mahato had called to deny any involvement.

"We were in no way involved. This is not our act," it quoted Mahato as saying.
