Prayers reverberate in Delhi on Easter eve

Christians in Delhi too, like thousands of people in other cities of the world, sat and prayed to the Almighty on Easter eve on Saturday.

At the Cathedral Church of the Redemption, hundreds gathered as the choir played soulful songs, youngsters performed a skit and the community prayed holding lighted candles.
As part of the Easter Vigil Service at the grand structure - built on Henry Alexander Medd’s (1892-1977) design, which had been inspired by the Palladio Church of II Redentore in Venice as well as Lutyen’s Hampstead church and opened for public worship on January 18, 1931 - in the heart of central Delhi, a four-part drama, service of light, Easter proclamation and Thanksgiving of redemption were performed.
Robin D’Souza had come with his wife and children all the way from Indirapuram. “It is a special time of the year for us. I had heard a lot about the service here and so I came with my family,” D’Souza said.
Monika Saha, a 24-year-old software professional, was also at the majestic church for the first time. “I’ve been to the St Paul’s Cathedral in Kolkata for the Easter service and it is déjà vu of sorts here for me,” Saha, who has moved to the Capital six months back, said.
