The BJP-led municipal corporations had announced a similar pension scheme for eunuchs a few years ago.

Terming them “one of the most vulnerable sections of society” who are socially ostracised and economically deprived, chief minister Sheila Dikshit said the government would provide financial support of Rs.1,000 per month to them.

“It will be given to those transgenders who have been living in the city for the past three years,” said Dikshit.

The community will also be eligible for the Annshree Yojana under which they will get R600 per month, she said.
