The child was found wrapped in a piece of cloth in the train’s bathroom.

Some passengers who were passing by heard the cries of the baby and called for her parents.

“When no one came forward, a call was made to the police control room,” said a senior police officer.

The locals alleged that despite the call being made around 10.30 pm, the police reached the spot after an hour. Locals also said that a sub inspector, who arrived at the scene, misbehaved with them and even abused them.

The child was later shifted to Bara Hindu Rao Hospital where she was given medical attention.

“After the medical tests, she was shifted to a children’s home. We are trying to trace her parents and would take any action only after that,” said the officer.

The train in which the child was found had halted at the Daya Basti railway station. “It seems the child’s guardian abandoned her and then fled from the scene at Daya Basti railway station,” said the officer. Further investigations were on.
