Sleuths fan across Delhi on scent of more illegal colonies

Teams of the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of Delhi government on Tuesday carried out investigations in several areas of Mehrauli in south Delhi and Narela and Kanjhawla in northwest Delhi in connection with a case it has registered against unauthorised colonizers in the Capital.

The team's investigation comes a week after the ACB registered an FIR against builders and developers from Alipur, Bawana and Narela areas of northwest Delhi for allegedly converting vast tracts of agriculture lands for unauthorized colonies in connivance with government officials.

After the FIR was registered last week, ACB sleuths had been carrying out surveys in different villages apart from going through hundreds of incriminating documents collected during searches conducted in certain offices of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and Delhi government's Revenue Department.

ACB sources confirmed: “Different teams went to south Delhi's Mehrauli and northwest Delhi's Narela and Kanjhawla areas for investigating further.”

It is likely that similar cases might be registered for colonies in these areas. However, sources refused to divulge details as the investigation is still going on.

In the meantime, another ACB team asked the Station House Officer (SHO) of Narela Police Station to submit a written statement.

The FIR on June 2 has been registered under section 7, 13 and 120 (b) of the Prevention of Corruption Branch and section 420 of the IPC. Through this FIR, the ACB has touched upon a huge land scam.
