No matter how much you score, the cut-offs are always high in Delhi University. The first cut-off list is out and it has disheartened the students yet again who did their every bit to grab a seat in DU.

On the first day, the campus witnessed some beaming faces that managed to get admission in the most coveted varsity of India, and also those who did not get through. For them the future remains uncertain.

Heymika Bhatia, a DU aspirant, said, “I have scored 90.75 per cent in best of four and want to get through Physics or Chemistry (Hons). The first cut-off is just so high. I have to wait for the second list to come. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed.”

St Stephen’s is riding high by setting cut-offs as high as 98 per cent for English (Hons) for commerce students.

While for science and humanities students, it is 93 per cent and 88 per cent, respectively.

Piya Mehta, another admission seeker, said, “I have a science background and I am really keen to take English (Hons). But the sky-scraping cut-offs are disappointing.”

Sociology and Political Science (Hons) have more takers now and this has led to the significant rise in their cut-offs. Getting into Humanities stream is no more a child’s play. Interestingly, it’s the BA courses like BA Programme, History (Hons) and Sociology that have seen a rising trend.

In Eco (Hons), there is again a minor increase in the cut-offs at campus colleges with Hindu leading with 96.5 per cent — the same as last year — and LSR following it with 94 per cent.

Sameer Punj, an admission seeker, said, "I was quite hopeful of getting Eco (Hons) in Hindu College, but as the cut-off is out it seems I have to check out other options.”

First cut-off list has led to mixed set of reactions and some speculations.

However, most students have not lost hope. “You always have another chance with second or third list,” said a hopeful aspirant at Miranda.
