‘Tripping’ more often in BRT lane

While a new fleet has wheeled out on Delhi’s roads, buses will be plying the BRT corridor more frequently. According to senior DTC officials, buses will run 40% more trips in the corridor intended exclusively for the eight-wheelers, reports HT Correspondent.

While a new fleet has wheeled out on Delhi’s roads, buses will be plying the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor more frequently. According to senior Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) officials, buses will run 40 per cent more trips in the corridor intended exclusively for the eight-wheelers.

“We currently have 731 trips of buses on the BRT corridor which will be increased to 1036 trips,” said a senior DTC official requesting anonymity, as he is not authorised to speak to the media.

BRT being Chief Minsiter Sheila Dikshit’s pet project, the DTC official said providing better public transport on the corridor is the Delhi government’s top priority.

The number of low floor buses running on three different routes—419, 423 and 522—would come down from 100 to 95. These three bus routes connect Ambedkar Nagar, the origin point of the BRT corridor, with Old Delhi Railway Station, Mori Gate and Rajendra Nagar respectively.

“So far, buses from our depots in Sukhdev Vihar, Mayapuri and Subhash Palace used to cater to the BRT corridor. With 107 new low floor buses being added to our fleet, we have started a new depot at Ambedkar Nagar.”

Not only the frequency of buses will improve on the corridor, the number of air-conditioned buses will also go up from 14 to 30.
