After Monday's rain, parts of the false ceiling of the TT stadium at the Yamuna sports complex collapsed. Damage to the special maplewood flooring and electrical installations were also reported. The facility is being upgraded by the Delhi Development Authority and was to be ready by March.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the DDA said that the drainage of the stadium's roof is still under construction. According to it, the false ceiling was made of Gypsum board, which loses strength if drench-ed, which is why it came down.

"Due to sudden heavy downpour of rain on Monday, the rainwater gutters provided for roof drainage overflowed, resulting in seepage of water and some damage to the false ceiling at few locations," it read.

At Siri Fort Sports complex, there was leakage from the roof in the badminton and squash stadium, as some repair work was in progress.
