The fair, which will be held till March 4, has been themed on the relationship between literature and cinema and has a specially designed pavilion dedicated for exhibition of selected 300 books, panel discussions, book launches and workshops on the subject of cinema.

"From the beginning, books and the written word have been the inpiration for films and its wonderful that atlast this relationship is being celebrated.

"The big debate on what is better -- films or books --will always continue but it is time we stop looking at the relationship as films vs books and rather look at them in totality", noted film critic Aruna Vasudeva said.

Eminent film and theatre personalities like Farooque Sheikh, Amol Palekar, Deepti Naval, Sushma Seth among others are expected to attend discussion sessions scheduled over the nine-day fair.

Inaugurating the event, HRD Minister Kapil Sibal said the government was planning to hold the event every year--as against once in two years at present--"given its increasing popularity and growing status as one of the most important book-related events in the Afro-Asian region".
