Some students present at the spot felt that the protest was the poorly-timed since most universities were in the process of conducting exams.

"I had told my friends to join me for the movement. But they didn't come since this is exam time. Students in most of the universities are busy with exams. Even though the cause is good, not many students have come because it means wasting precious study time," said Vikalp Sood, a student of GGSIPU. While exams at Delhi University (DU) and Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) will from next month, some students of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), who had finished their exams, made a brief appearance.

Students had since long been a part of the movement. "We have been supporting the movement right from the time it started at the Ramlila Maidan in August last year," said Brij Kishore, a student of IIT (Delhi).

Some students, however, said exams were just an excuse.
