JEE Main 2023 LIVE: NTA JEE correction window closes today at jeemain.nta.nic.in

JEE Mains Exam for Session 1 has not been postponed. The examination will be conducted as per schedule. The exam dates are January 24, 25, 27, 28, 29, 30 and 31, 2023.

ACJ has asked the petitioner to file a rejoinder. The hearing will be again done on February 21, 2023. 

JEE Mains last date to apply for the examination for Session 1 is January 12, 2023. Candidates can apply online through the official site of JEE Main at jeemain.nta.nic.in. 

In the hearing, ACJ tells Advocate Joseph that students who cant appear in January 2023 exam can appear in April 2023 exams. He further tells that the exam is PAN India exams and if postponement is passed, it will have effect all over India. 

Petitioner says that the January exam will be detrimental to future of students and hence January exam should be postponed to April and April exams to May. 

ACJ has asked the Advocate regarding the plea for postponement of exam that will JEE Mains Session 1 exam conclude by March 31? To which the Joseph Thate says yes. He further informs that there are other exams across India as well. 

Advocate Joseph Thate tells court that if these exams are postponed to April nothing will go wrong. 

To which ACJ asks “When will HSC/class XII exams be held in country?”

The Advocate informs ACJ about the exam dates. JT informs that JEE process was completed only in November 2022 and so students were surprised by the January 2023 dates.

“Most of the state boards have scheduled their pre-board and board examinations for the month of January 2023. Therefore, students will find it difficult to appear for the Mains examination. The Mains examination planned in January 2023 is non-beneficial to them because they won't appear for the exam,” the PIL reads.

Candidates must secure 75% marks (65% for SC, ST) in their Class 12 final examination, in addition to qualifying in JEE Main for admission to National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) and other Centrally Funded Technological Institutions (CFTIs). Admission to these institutes are given through JoSAA and CSAB counselling.

Bombay High Court will today hear a plea seeking postponement of JEE Main 2023 session 1 to April, and for relaxation in the eligibility criteria for JEE based admissions.

A public interest litigation (PIL) petition was filed before the Bombay high court seeking relaxation of the eligibility criterion for the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE), the test that is conducted for admission to engineering colleges like the IITs and NITs. A student appearing for JEE has to score a minimum of 75 percent in the Class 12 exams.

CBSE, in a recent notification said that JEE Main 2023 session 1 is between CBSE practical exams and therefore, schools should plan dates for holding these exams carefully.

Advocate Rui Rodrigues who appeared for the National Testing Agency (NTA) said that the requirement of 75% marks was for admission to IITs and not for appearing in JEE Main and any student with lesser marks could also appear for the exam.

In the last hearing, Advocate Joseph Thate told the HC bench that JEE Main is a crucial exam for students and they only have six attempts. Thate further said that the timing of the exams would clash with the HSC prelims and viva voce and therefore it should be postponed to April 2023.

However, the main focus was on the eligibility criteria of 75% marks in HSC exams. Thate said that the 75% marks criteria was not there last year. Since many candidates appearing for JEE Main this year are from batches that were assessed for board exams based on alternative methods due to COVID-19 pandemic, many scored below 75% marks but could perform well in JEE Mains. The petition stated that if the criteria were not set aside, it would affect the future of many students.
