IIMA hosts its third annual Summer School

The Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) is hosting its third ­annual edition of Summer School from June 2 to June 7, 2014. This edition offers doctoral students, researchers and faculty across the globe an opportunity to learn specialised research methods.

The Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) is hosting its third ­annual edition of Summer School from June 2 to June 7, 2014. This edition offers doctoral students, researchers and faculty across the globe an opportunity to learn specialised research methods.

The current summer school is a student-backed and institute-supported initiative. It attracted about 300 applications out of which 80 have been selected through a rigorous selection process. Of the 80 applicants, 11 are from SAARC countries.

Every year, the institute aims to introduce the participants to research method courses via experts from premier institutes and organisations, says Prof Arnab K Laha, faculty coordinator, Summer School. It provides an opportunity for participants to interact with each other.

The event brings together two parallel tracks: Track-1 on experiments in business and policy, and Track-2 on qualitative research methods. These tracks are conducted by instructors from IIMs, IITs, CLEAR (regional centres for learning on evaluation and results) and a research scholar from Duke University. The instructors for the workshops are Prof Ankur Sarin, Diva Dhar, Jose Carrasco, Prof Mona Mehta, Prof Pavan Mamidi, Prof Rama Mohana Turaga, Prof Sharon Barnhardt, Prof Sunil Sharma, Prof Vaibhavi Kulkarni, Prof Vijaya Sherry Chand and Prof Vishal Gupta. Track -1 is being funded by CLEAR at J-PAL (Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab). South Asia at IFMR (Institute for Financial Management and Research), an organisation committed to research in strengthening monitoring and evaluation (M&E) and performance management (PM) capacities in South Asian countries and Track-2 is being sponsored by IIMA.

The tracks will comprise lecture series, discussions, presentations and field visits.

The event will also facilitate informal interactions among participants.

The student coordinator of Summer School, Deepika Saluja, says that the event will include a documentary screening, a stress audit workshop by Professor DM Pestonjee, chair professor, PDPU, Gandhinagar and a heritage walk by the institute’s heritage club. For details, visit www.ss-iima.com
