St Xavier’s College has a 150-year-long tradition in educational expertise. Regarded widely as one of the best colleges in the country, especially for the arts stream, the college was recently declared autonomous.
A special honours programme has been implemented, where students are encouraged to earn extra credits by way of independent research, projects, or seminars.
The college has qualified faculty to match In 2007, it was awarded the highest rating (A+) in the re-accreditation by the NAAC, an autonomous body linked to the University Grants Commission of India. The campus buzzes with cultural activities, including one of India’s biggest college fests, Malhar.
It offers courses in mass media, management studies, economics, history, psychology, sociology, political science, anthropology, ancient culture, and statistics, among others.

Sophia College for women
Located between Breach Candy and Peddar Road, Sophia College for Women, known for its discipline, was founded in 1941. It is affiliated to the University of Mumbai and comes under the governing body of the Society for Higher Education for Women in India.
The college has been given an ‘A’ grade by NAAC (The National Assessment and Accreditation Council) in both 2003 and 2009. A green oasis in the heart of a congested metropolis, the college has well-designed, airy buildings set around a beautiful central lawn, a terraced garden and a herbal garden. The main building, which is a heritage structure, has been enlarged over the years to accommodate lecture halls, library and an audio-visual room.
The Sophia campus has excellent infrastructural facilities and is always alive with activity-academic, co-curricular, extra-curricular and sports.
