Shri Guru Hargobind Senior Secondary School, Mehta, student Khushpreet Kaur scored 99.08% and stood third in state in the Class 10- Punjab School Education Board (PSEB),the results of which were declared on Wednesday.
The 16-year-old, who scored 644 out of 650 marks, hails from Manga village, which is 25km from Amritsar and wants to be a mathematics professor. Her father, Gursevak Singh is an army officer while her mother Jasbir Kaur is a housewife.
Khushpreet says she always had an inclination towards studying and never took a weekend off. “I would study for five to six hours a day. I did not join any coaching classes and advocate self-study. I believe in understanding concepts and logics over rote learning.”
However, she would carve out a little time for singing and dancing . “My parents and teachers were instrumental in helping me achieve success,” says Khushpreet.
Managing director Inderjit Singh said, “Principal Balvinder Kaur and the faculty is proud of Khushpreet. Besides her, other students have also scored well. Navpreet Kaur scored 641 out of 650 marks, whereas Nazdeep Kaur scored 639 and Khushdeep Kaur scored 636 marks.”
Sports quota topper scores perfect 100
Bal Vidya Mandir High School student Nandani Mahajan scored a perfect 100 in the Class 10 Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) and stood first in the sports quota.
She shares the top position with Ritika and Niraj Yadav of Ludhiana. She scored 100% marks (650 out of 650).
Nandani Mahajan,the daughter of a housewife (Manisha Mahajan) and grocery shop owner (Raj Kumar) aspires to become an IAS officer. She says she wants to make her family proud.
“I never took any tuitions. I paid attention at school and made sure to give time to self-study,” she says. English and mathematics are her favourite subjects and she likes to deliver speeches for which she has won many medals in district-level competitions. She is a silver medallist in state sqay martial art.
Two other students from the school, Rabia and Kamalpreet Kaur of Ludhiana, scored 645/650 marks and stood third in the state.
Rabia is a state and national champion in sqay martial art. She wants to pursue medicine. Rabia’s father Naresh Kumar is a Punjab Police head constable and her mother Kajal is a housewife.
Under the sports quota,15 marks are added to the total marks obtained.
