Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)

  • Birth Year:1968
  • Description:Samrat Choudhary is a prominent political figure in Bihar, and has effectively been Number 2 as a deputy CM in Nitish Kumar's NDA regime. He has held the position of state president for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He comes from a political family; his father, Shakuni Choudhary, was a Member of Parliament and a well-known politician. Samrat Choudhary’s political journey began with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). In 1999, he became a minister in Rabri Devi’s government without being a legislator. He was first elected as an MLA from the Parbatta constituency in Khagaria in 2000 on the RJD ticket, and won the seat again in 2010. In 2014, he switched to the Janata Dal (United) and served as a minister in Jitan Ram Manjhi's government. After briefly associating with Manjhi's party, he joined the BJP in 2017. Within the BJP, he quickly rose through the ranks, serving as state vice-president and a Member of the Legislative Council before becoming the state unit president in 2023. He was appointed deputy CM in January 2024. Having transitioned from a socialist to a nationalist political ideology, Choudhary is now considered a trusted leader within the BJP high command and is widely regarded as a potential CM candidate for the party.
