All it takes is a smile
Actress Padmini Kolhapure on her life mantra with Malvika Nanda.
What’s your idea of God?

God cannot be broken down... I do believe in God and I feel that we need to value the nature and things around us as all of us are God-driven. I am not a ritualistic person but do follow a few traditions, like bringing Ganpati ji home every year.
Do you make a distinction between religion and spirituality?
Yes of course. Religion and spirituality are not identical. Religion is institutionalised spirituality established by man to exert control, instill morality, stroke egos, etc. Basically, it removes god from the equation. But spirituality is born and developed in us and is extended to all facets of our lives. In fact, unlike religion, spirituality is a subject matter of individual choice. Being spiritual to me is more important and better than being religious.
Do you feel that something/someone keeps you protected?
While I was shooting Bolo Ram, I escaped a lot of accidents... It had to be some super force at work.
How do you make your spiritual connection at work and in life?
Spirituality helps me remove negativity and focus better. Having goals and living a life that’s in tune with your values and core spiritual beliefs is one important aspect of happiness. Whenever I get time, I do visit temple, and I make sure to pray before I leave home.
Do you have a special God moment?
Every moment in my life is a special God moment. When I got the offer to act in films that was a special moment for me. With my upcoming movie, God has really pushed me to make a comeback in the industry.
What does happiness mean to you?
Happiness to me is what I feel when I’m with my family. You’re in the right frame of mind only when you’re happy. That’s when you can truly reach for your goals. So keep smiling.
Greatest influences?
I follow the Bhagwad Gita.
What’s your solution for communal harmony in India?
Tolerance and feeling of unity is the only way.
Do you have a mind talisman?
Yes, that has to be my family.
