Preity ZintaIt’s that time of the year again when glamour meets business as divas and actors get into a boardroom battle with corporate honchos in an aim to get the best players for their cricket teams. Indian Premier League, into its third year now, again pitched the likes of Shah Rukh Khan, Shilpa Shetty and Preity Zinta against seasoned business tycoons like Vijay Mallya and Mukesh Ambani as the Season 3 auction took place in Mumbai on Tuesday.

Even with millions flying around like twigs, the atmosphere wasn’t devoid of B-town masala. Zinta and her business partner Ness Wadia have made a pretty picture right from the start of IPL. Post their break-up, it was a change to see the actress walk in alone, while Wadia, dressed in the team jersey, joined the Punjab IPL team’s table later. Preity was not in her lucky red dress, but in a fitted black jacket, and seemed quite at ease with her ex sitting next to her.

Kolkata team owner Shah Rukh Khan chose to give the auction a miss — he was probably too tired after tweeting till 5 am! His business partner, actress Juhi Chawla was also absent. Mrs Raj Kundra, aka Shilpa Shetty, made an appearance for her Rajasthan team in a deep-necked blue outfit, but hubby Raj was nowhere to be seen.

Neeta Ambani, sporting the white t-shirt of her Mumbai team, beamed as she successfully bid for the first player of the day. Tech-savvy, IPL commissioner Lalit Modi ensured that his staff tweeted every minute of the proceedings.
