Amitabh Bachchan has cast the first vote for the International Indian Film Academy [IIFA] awards this year. In what is one of the first rounds of IIFA every year, the entire industry is invited to cast their votes and shortlist nominations in the category of Popular Awards.

The Technical Award winners and the Popular Award nominations are derived from this voting weekend. The IIFA voting process is a stringent and methodical procedure that is closely monitored by PricewaterhouseCoopers, the official auditors for the event.

The final winners are revealed only on the night of the awards ceremony when the envelope is opened onstage, in front of a live audience.
