Pop singer Christina Aguilera turned to music to help her cope with the trauma of her growing up days when she regularly witnessed her father Fausto attack her mother Shelly.

"I have witnessed a lot of unpleasant things, a lot of pushing and shoving and fighting and quarrelling. During my growing up years I did not feel safe. So I turned to singing as an outlet. The pain at home is where my love for music came from," femalefirst.co.uk quoted Aguilera as saying.

The singer was the victim of domestic abuse as she admits that living with an abusive father helped her become a successful singer.

Her mother eventually left her father when she found four-year-old Aguilera covered in blood.
